Sessional Worker(s) at Ceres, Kemback and Springfield Church (Deadline 7th Feb)

Ceres Kemback and Springfield Church

Introduction

The Church is looking to recruit either two sessional workers or one person who has the skills to cover both posts.   The sessional post(s) are to develop, plan and run, with the assistance of a team of volunteers, Messy Church and/or the Youth Club.  The Youth Club, is located in Ceres and Messy Church is currently located in Springfield but it is hoped it will also be located in Ceres.

Requirements for both posts

  • The person should be motivated by a clear and articulate Christian faith and must have the human touch with good people skills. 
  • He/she must be able to relate well to children, young people and their families
  • Have leadership skills and the ability to encourage and enable members of the team to develop their own gifts and ministries.
  • Be an excellent team player.

Conditions of Employment

Hours of Employment

                Youth Club – 4 hours per week during school term

                Messy Church – 12 hours per month during school term

Salary - £13.00 per hour

Notice – 3 months by either party

The post will subject to an annual review by both parties

Line Manager – Session Clerk or a designated member of Session.

Specific Requirements for Youth Club position

The person appointed would be required :

  • To develop, with the volunteer team, the Youth Club currently located in Ceres, to lead and support the volunteers, and build on the excellent and enthusiastic work that took place pre Covid.
  • To work with the volunteers to help the church to reach out to the parish and help us move closer to our aim of being “A church at the heart of the community with the community at its heart” by:
  • Exploring ways of attracting more young people to attend the Youth Club.
  • Undertaking general organisational duties.
  • Preparing and planning the programme for the Youth Club for the forthcoming term.
  • Supporting and developing the volunteer team.
  • Preparing a feasibility study into the setting up of a Youth Club in Springfield and reporting on that feasibility study to the Kirk Session.

Specific Requirements for Messy Church position

The person appointed would be required:

  • To have experience of working with children and families within a Christian Community, although the person appointed may not have experience of Messy Church specifically.
  • To lead the planning, development and running of the Messy Church events (normally monthly with a break for the summer school holidays – on average 9 events per annum)  A separate planning meeting is held with volunteers prior to each event.
  • To ensure that all the necessary roles are in place for each Messy Church event in terms of welcoming, registering, providing refreshments, arranging the activities, celebrations and ensuring the catering arrangements for the meal are in place.
  • To be able to prepare craft activities as appropriate or source the relevant volunteer for the craft section of the event.
  • To encourage and recruit volunteers to the Messy Church team.
  • To lead the planning, development and running of the Messy Church film nights (normally about eight film nights per annum)
  • Preparing a feasibility study into the setting up of a Youth Club in Springfield and reporting on that feasibility study to the Kirk Session.
